I have come to understand that counseling and psychotherapy can promote personal growth, autonomy, and self-acceptance, especially when the therapist conducts themselves in a manner that is open-minded, respectful, reliable, and humane. As a therapist, I use cognitive, interpersonal and exploratory approaches in a straight-forward, supportive, and understandable manner. Because everyone is unique, I adjust my therapeutic approach to the particular needs and circumstances of the individual. I work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with life's changes and transitions, with relationship problems, with the consequences of trauma and victimization, and with the symptoms, stresses and self-esteem issues that accompany many medical and psychiatric illnesses. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, I completed my doctoral studies at Colorado State University in 1984. I have been active in clinical and forensic mental health practice in Washington, DC and Virginia since 1985.
