People who experience traumas early in life develop coping skills that over time become habits - even addictions - and these habits begin to cause as much disruption and suffering as those experiences they mask. Using art therapy and the creative process, I work with adults whose protective habits have proved limiting and are not working anymore. When you want to make changes in your life to create purpose, direction, and joy, life's naturally occurring challenges may come, and when they do, we can work together to explore other ways of coping rather than those old habits which cause you pain. American Art Therapy Association describes the process as: "clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem." I am licensed in Vermont as a clinical mental health counselor and certified nationally by the Art Therapy Credentials Board as an art therapist and art therapy supervisor. In my work with clients, I use my skills and experience in trauma-informed care to facilitate healing unique to each person.
