I specialize in treating adopted and foster children (kids from "hard places") and their families, and children and adults who have experienced trauma, i.e.: Chronic Medical Illness, Hospitalization, & Crime Victims. I graduated from Florida State University in 1989 with a Masters in Clinical Social Work. I am the author of four books: "The Adoptive & Foster Parent Guide", "Devotions of Comfort and Hope for Adoptive & Foster Moms", and "Clothed In Armor: Spiritual Warfare for Adopted and Foster Kids", and "Clothe In Armor: Spiritual Warfare for Kids." All books can be found on Amazon or my website, www.forever-families.com. Trauma can originate from repetitive neglect, abuse, past hurts or one time events; either can be successfully addressed and resolved. Attachment difficulties are often related to early deprivation, abandonment, neglect or abuse; conditions that are often found for kids from "hard places" who have lived in orphanages, and/or foster care. When I work with children with unresolved trauma or attachment, the family is greatly involved in every session. Typically, parents remain in the therapy room for each visit with their child. I also work with adult adoptees and adults who had been in the foster care system.
