I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor trained as an Expressive Arts Therapist. For the past 20+ years I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and families on such issues as: depression or stress management, childrens behavioral/ developmental concerns and related parental stress, adolescent self-esteem/insecurities or social difficulties,eating disorders,substance use and general adjustment to changes within families. I am fluent in a range of therapeutic approaches and I have the flexibility to tailor my approach to the individuals and families' needs and comfort level. I use Art and Play Therapy with children as a way to connect with them in an indirect, non-threatening way and to help identify problem areas. In some cases they are helpful tools for skill-building; communication,etc. Including parents, guardians, in the child's treatment can be an important carry-over. Adolescents and adults can also find that exploring their difficulties through their creative process is meaningful. The creative process and not artistic accomplishment is the focus of the treatment.
