I appreciate that people can find it hard to seek out therapy. Most often my first contact with someone looking for a therapist is on the phone, which is why I will offer a free initial consultation. A face to face conversation will encourage a focused review of the problem and establish the comfort to either move ahead or not. The counseling process requires a level of comfort and trust that has to be felt by both the client and counselor. This mutual process or partnership becomes critical as the problem is explored and decisions are made as to what course of action is recommended. I have become used to seeing problems in behavioral terms. I know that thoughts and emotions are very much part of any therapy problem, but behavior is how all of this is expressed, and what is most often the subject of change in therapy. In addition to someone's behavior I believe that spirituality is important because we use our values, principles, and beliefs to give us purpose and meaning in life. Our values when expressed provide direction for us, and even though we may not always follow them, we know when we do and don't.
