Congratulations for having the courage to search for help navigating your emotional life. Making that first call is often the hardest step. I am a licensed clinical social worker who works with a variety of clients dealing with emotional and relational challenges. Some are dealing with anxiety, phobias or depression that they don't completely understand. Others are having relationship problems with a significant other or family member. Many people would like to have more satisfying connections with others in their lives. Some of the clients I work with have addiction issues which serve to temporarily cover up the pain or emptiness they are feeling. In the first session, the client and I are getting a sense of whether or not we are a good fit. The client describes his or her issues and I try my best to give an idea of some of the ways I would approach the issues with them. I am a midlife adult with the experience both personally and professionally that being a midlife adult brings. Life is not always easy and there are many things out of our control. However, our emotional life is largely in our control. Therapy can help you gain that control.
