Dr. John V. Carlson
Psychologist, PhD
Glastonbury, Connecticut 06033

My approach is to help adults and adolescents face and resolve underlying painful feelings that may contribute to present day psychological difficulties. I strive to help individuals remove any obstacles to accessing longstanding painful feelings which often sit at the root of psychological symptoms. Each session is designed to help the person face as much previously avoided painful feeling as they are able to tolerate, with the ultimate goal of achieving emotional freedom and the resolution of the presenting problem. My interest in working with adolescents is informed by my having taught and coached high school students in the public setting for several years prior to becoming a psychologist. I believe my background-along with my training-affords me the ability to work particularly effectively with this client group. I treat a variety of difficulties including but not limited to: depression and anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, obsessional worries, and difficulties in achieving one's potential.
