Chesterton wrote, "Until suffering comes upon us, the explorations that consume our hearts and our communities reflect the shallowness of our lives." Flannery O'Connor said that "Conviction without experience makes for harshness." I believe our experiences shape who we are. I believe that walking through challenge and hardship with support and intentionality will shock us out of the "shallowness of our lives" and relieve us of the "harshness" with which we deal with others and, ultimately, ourselves. I'm happy to work with any individual or couple who wishes to work to gain perspective on life and the pleasures and pains it presents. I am a "Client Centered" therapist with a penchant for existentialism. I employ Rogers' approach of accurate empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. That said, I'm comfortable borrowing tools from other theoretical perspectives if they can be of help to the client. I worked a corporate job for 10 years. I can relate to the challenges of identity and transition. I've experienced grief. I honestly believe that I am a whisper away from wherever life's challenges have left you. No judgement here - just sincere interest in helping you move forward and gain helpful perspective.
