Individuals are often unaware of the many factors that determine their emotions and behavior. My approach fosters self awareness. By better understanding their perceptions about themselves and others, as well as how important experiences have influenced them, clients can change the way they see themselves and the world. They can make informed choices about the way they conduct their present and future lives. My approach is especially suited to getting to the root of long term problems and patterns. The benefits of this approach can be the following: -Relief from painful emotional problems. -Improved relationships. -Taking more pleasure from life. -Ceasing self-destructive patterns of behavior. -Become more productive at work. -Unlock creative potential. -Better understand oneself. -Feel understood. -Prevent the past from interfering with the present. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Medicine, where I also serve as the Director of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program. I'm also on the faculty of the New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center.
