As a licensed psychologist, I help clients in individual counseling to gain awareness and understanding of their particular issue. From there options become available and are exercised. Through this process, change is achieved. This process will be different for each individual and each issue. The goal is to reduce distress and to turn things around so you are managing the issue/mood instead of it managing or arresting you. The types of issues I have expertise in are mood (especially anxiety and depression) disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, grief/loss, family of origin issues, life changes and personal growth. During my education and training, my focus has been on understanding how normal or typical functioning develops and how personal dysfunction occurs. This focus is useful in all issues, but especially so in self-esteem, relationship, and more longstanding issues. I utilize various approaches, including cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches. Dr. Finnegan received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University in New York and a second major in Personality and Social Development from Florida Atlantic University in Florida. Her Internship was done at Florida State University Student Counseling Center in Tallahasse, FL. Dr. Finnegan is a member of the American Psychological Association.
