I have been a school teacher for 29 years; therefore, adolescents/teens are my focus area. I specialize with children and adults who have mood disorders, childhood disorders, and family issues. For many, the teen years are extremely difficult. Problems with school, friends, parents, and life stressors in general often progress to depression, anger, or anxiety. Many teens turn to drugs, unprotected sex, or even self harming behaviors as a way to cope. Individual therapy with the adolescent/teen, gives him/her the chance to explore thoughts and feelings in a safe confidential environment. Family therapy can be used in order to give the adolescent/teen and parent(s) an opportunity to discuss problems in their relationship in order to improve the relationship and to problem solve solutions to challenges which are impeding a quality parent/child relationship. There are times when therapy with one or both parents may be recommended as a means to manage stress and also to examine different parenting strategies. Life in general presents many challenges from work, family, relationships, or scars from the past which can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety.
